I’m setting up a small garage MIG station and plan to run a 120V machine on a 20A circuit with 0.030 ER70S-6, C25 at about 20 CFH, and a work lead lugged to a 3/16" steel-top bench; clean to bright metal, clamp within 2" of the joint, tack in sequence, then run a 2" test bead and adjust wire speed/voltage from there… For those who’ve done similar, any tweaks to that workflow — especially for 16ga sheet and 1/8" angle — before I bolt the bench and torch holder in place?
That workflow sounds solid! Just make sure your work lead’s connection is tight; a loose ground can turn that machine into a real diva, making it harder to find your sweet spot. I’ve also found that starting with a slightly faster wire speed than you think you need helps get a cleaner bead right off the bat.
Looks like you’re on the right track! Just remember, if you’re working with thicker metal, sometimes slowing down your travel speed helps with penetration. I’ve had great luck with adjusting the voltage slightly to see how it affects bead appearance.
