Field-tested weld log and consumables tracker

Running a rig in 30 mph wind and ankle-deep mud while juggling RT schedules and change orders, I’m using a homebuilt offline sheet to map welds, track heat numbers, NDT status, and 7018/flux-core usage, but it’s clunky with no signal. Looking for an offline-friendly app or template that actually helps hit deadlines and budgets in the field; I can share my sheet if anyone wants. Open to ideas.

Been there — no signal, wind blasting, and you’re trying to tick RT and heat numbers without dropping a rod, ugh. I switched to QField with a tiny QGIS project: each weld is a point with fields for heat #, NDT status, and a quick 7018/flux-core tally; runs 100% offline and I export CSV at the trailer for budgets. I’ve had good luck with FastField Forms offline on a beat-up Android — no signal, , wind still wins but the data sticks. I set it to auto-generate weld IDs, snap a quick photo, and a calc that totals 7018/flux-core per shift so it flags red when I’m blowing the rod budget and helps me line up RT. @victoria61’s barcode trick works in Memento Database too — I built a small ‘Weld Log’ linked to a ‘Heats’ library so a scan auto-fills certs, a single toggle sets RT/VT, and it runs fully offline; I tag the joint with an NFC sticker for a ‘scan, tap, done’ grab when the wind’s sandblasting the screen. On shutdowns I use ODK Collect offline with a simple form: preload a heats table (CSV), scan QR/1D codes, drop a GPS point, and snap a photo, then export a clean CSV for QC — https://getodk.org. Small tip from the mud: pre‑print weatherproof QR stickers for joint IDs and stick one at the bevel and on the spool so scans tie out later, saves thumbs when the wind’s trying to steal your phone. It’s not as slick as FastField and xlsform setup takes an hour, but once built it’s been solid for me, and @victoria61’s scanning idea slots right.
