Handling last-minute job changes

And i had a customer call me last week, needing a last-minute fix on a gate for a commercial site — navigating those urgent requests can be a nightmare, especially when I’ve already laid out my schedule for the week. Has anyone else dealt with this? I ended up rearranging my day and keeping the client informed, but I’m curious how others handle it without losing productivity.

Dealing with those urgent fixes really tests your schedule, doesn’t it? I’ve had success using a simple spreadsheet to prioritize tasks and leave a buffer for unexpected calls, like that gate issue. It helps to keep the client updated while still managing time effectively.

And i totally get that — i started blocking out a few ‘flex’ hours each week for surprises. Have you thought about that?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌

, those last-minute requests can really throw a wrench in your whole week — i started setting aside a couple of hours each week as ‘flex time’ for unexpected stuff, and it helps a bit. Do you think that could work for you, or does your schedule not allow for it?
