Mastering TIG: Tackling Thin Metals

I’ve been working with TIG for over a decade, and one challenge I’ve faced repeatedly is welding thin metals without warping. Recently, I adjusted my technique by decreasing the amperage and using a smaller tungsten electrode, which really helped with precision. I’d love to hear how others approach this issue — any tips on settings or techniques that have worked for you?

It’s all about the balance, right? I’ve found backing the heat down and pulling that torch angle back a bit can really save those thin metals from warping too much. Have you tried a pulse setting?

And i’ve found that using a pulse setting can help control heat on thin materials without warping. Have you experimented with that approach, @jacsmit?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌

Another thing I’ve found helpful is to add a bit of filler metal to the joint as I go. It helps reduce the heat concentration and can minimize warping on those thin pieces. Have you tried incorporating that technique at all?
