Brazed a 3/4" copper run this morning, then jumped to a gate repair and caught myself trying to flux a 7018 like it was solder while my vest still smells like pipe dope. Anyone else switch hats and realize your purge rig is just the shop vac you forgot to unplug from the van?
Ugh, same — after a 3/4" copper run I’ve tried to butter a 7018 with flux too. I loop the shop vac cord over the steering wheel before I unload and slapped blue tape on the 7018 can so I don’t “purge” with the vac or reach for flux by habit. Pipe dope stink is the walk of shame, lol.
I started color-coding my kits — blue tote for copper, red for welding — and I swap gloves as a hard reset before I light up. You run separate totes or one bucket for everything? That little ritual saved me from trying to “tin” a handrail last week.
Did the same brain-mix, and what saved me was a tiny preflight sticker on the stinger: ‘DCEP, rods dry, no paste’ — forces a two-second reset before I strike; pilot checklist for my brain. @chris_gar21 that overkill or worth it?
