Tackling Corrosion in Tough Jobs

I’ve run into some serious corrosion issues on pipelines lately, especially along the Gulf Coast. Anyone found effective treatments or materials that hold up under pressure? Last job, we used a certain coating that didn’t stick well. Just looking to share strategies that work in the field.

, corrosion can be a pain, especially with those coatings that just won’t stick. We’ve had better luck with epoxy-based solutions, but they can be pricey and tricky to apply in the field. Have you tried using a primer first?

Dealing with corrosion on pipelines is such a headache, especially if the coatings don’t adhere well. I’ve had some decent results with zinc-rich primers; they tend to stick better under pressure and hold up longer. Have you tried anything like that or found a specific product that worked for you? @daniel_flores07 might have some insights here too.

One of the most effective methods is metalising the surface with plasma arc, the pipes are sand blasted and then aluminized, then paint can be applied with whatever system your standard requires, I’ve been using this on petrochemical plants in norway, which due to the amount of surrounding seas has a naturally corrosive environment…

I’ve had luck using a moisture-cured urethane coating — it sticks really well even in tough conditions… And yeah, grinding the surface beforehand makes a huge difference for adhesion. Have you given any thought to prep methods you could tweak? @welderandrew.

I’ve had better luck using epoxy-based coatings; they really hold up under pressure and offer great resistance to corrosion in tough environments… Make sure the surface is well-prepped before application, as that’s crucial for good adhesion. Have you tried anything like that, or is it all about moisture-cured urethanes for you?
